Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 has two main streams of entry, plus a third, less used, stream:-

Permanently excluded Sutton students in Years 10 and 11, as well as those students
At Risk of Permanent Exclusion (CARE)
Year 11s unplaced – coming from out of borough

Our aim is to complete an admission interview and then assess each of the students and identify their needs and reasons for struggling at school. Once the assessment process has been completed, a timetable will be put in place for the student and they will start their provision: this will either be on site full time, or off site using one of our local providers, or a mixed timetable.

The student will be assigned a tutor who will be the main point of contact for the family, and telephone calls home are made each week by the tutor to inform on progress. Through a weekly case management meeting, students’ needs will be discussed and, where necessary, additional support may be put into place - this may range from:-

Anger management
1:1 support
Bereavement counselling
Sessions with our Clinical Psychologist
Accessing our on site Social Worker
Assigning a Family Outreach Worker

Where possible, students can return to mainstream school but this happens more often in Key Stage 3; however, those who remain can complete a full range of GCSE courses, and we aim each year for 100% of our students to go on to a positive destination, including the local colleges, Apprenticeships and returning to mainstream sixth form placements. A lot of work and time is used to ensure that students begin to understand and accept responsibility for their behaviour and each student will set specific personalised targets with their tutor each term.

Specific Key Stage 4 aims - To support all students in gaining appropriate accreditations enabling them to access college/work placements and to live independent lives.

For students in Year 10 - Staff will continue to review students' effort in class, attitude, attendance and behaviour. If a student can demonstrate that they are able to return to mainstream school, their tutor will discuss this with the individual student and parents/carers.

For students in Year 11 - Staff at The Limes College will support all students to work towards post-16 provision at college, employment or training. Staff continue to monitor effort in class, attitude, attendance and behaviour. This information will be used for applications and references for new placements.

Options for students finishing school in Year 11 - What our students do when they leave The Limes College is important to us and a lot of work is put in by tutors and Family Outreach Workers to prepare our students for the important issue of deciding whether they go on to further education, employment or training when they finish in Year 11.

Further Education - If a student decides that they would like to attend colleges such as Carshalton, Nescot, Merton, Croydon or Kingston, then the course they choose depends largely on the qualifications gained whilst at The Limes College. Tutors and Family Outreach Workers discuss post-16 options with students in the spring term (January - April).

Please see the information below which indicates the different levels of education that a young person can enter. Each level takes one academic year (September - July) to complete; therefore, it is in our students' interests to work as hard as they can so that they can start at the highest possible level:-

ENTRY LEVEL - Students do not need any qualifications to gain a place on these foundation courses which include:-

LEVEL 1 - No GCSEs are required but students will need to demonstrate a good understanding of Maths and English, which are assessed by the college of their choice. Introductory courses include:-

Business
Performing Arts
Sports Coaching

LEVEL 2 - Students will need 3-4 GCSEs at grades D-G to access intermediate courses such as:-

Travel and Tourism
Beauty
Music Technology
Computing

LEVEL 3 - Students will need 4 GCSEs at grades A-C to access advanced courses such as:-

Beauty
Travel and Tourism
Computing

Employment - There are a wide number of options for students going into employment when they finish at The Limes College. Job opportunities will depend largely on students' qualifications and aptitude in Maths and English and will pay at, or above, the minimum wage.
