Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance:

At The Limes College we are committed to a CEIAG programme follows national frameworks for good practice and other relevant guidance, such as: Section 19 Education Act (2011), Careers strategy: making the most of everyone’s skills and talents (December 2017), Careers guidance and access for education and training providers: Statutory guidance for governing bodies, school leaders and school staff (January 2018); Updated Statutory Guidance (October 2018 and July 2021) as well as guidelines from Ofsted, the Career Development Institute and the Gatsby benchmarks for good career guidance. 

Our CEIAG promotes the personal and social development of our students with a particular emphasis on: 

• Achieving economic well-being. 

• Making a positive contribution. 

• Staying safe. 

In doing so we provide guidance for our young people in a world of ever more flexible pathways into further education, training or employment. In ensuring our CEIAG programme is effective we: 

• Are in the process of training our in-house careers advisor. 

• Ensure that impartial information is made available to students about educational choices, careers options and employment and training opportunities. 

• Provide a planned programme of careers education and information, advice and guidance (IAG) for all students in Years Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. ​​Consult with students and involve them in evaluation and monitoring of the programme. 

Provider Access

Our policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

Student Entitlement: 

Students are entitled to CEIAG which meets professional standards of practice and which is person-centred, personalised and impartial. It is integrated into students’ experience of the whole curriculum and based on a partnership with students and their parents or carers. The programme is structured to deliver explicit learning outcomes, raise aspirations, challenge stereotyping and promote equality and diversity.  

Students are entitled: 

• To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point. 

• To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships, through options events, assemblies, group discussions and taster events. 

• To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses. 

For pupils of compulsory school age these encounters are mandatory and there will be a minimum of two encounters for pupils during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 to 9) and two encounters for pupils during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 to 11). 

These provider encounters will be scheduled during the main school hours and the provider will be given a reasonable amount of time to, as a minimum:

• share information about both the provider and the approved technical education qualification and apprenticeships that the provider offers

• explain what career routes those options could lead to

• provide insights into what it might be like to learn or train with that provider (including the opportunity to meet staff and pupils from the provider) 56

• answer questions from pupils.

Meaningful provider encounters

One encounter is defined as one meeting/session between pupils and one provider. We are committed to providing meaningful encounters to all pupils using the Making it meaningful checklist.

Meaningful online engagement is also an option, and we are open to providers that are able to provide live online engagement with our pupils.

Opportunities for access: 

The Limes College offers the six provider encounters required by law and a number of additional events, integrated into the school careers programme. We will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to pupils or their parents or carers.

Please speak to our Careers Leader to identify the most suitable opportunity for you.

Support for parents and carers 

In partnership with the school, you have an important role to play in helping your child to access information and make decisions about their career paths. 

We strongly encourage you to play an active role in this process.

Looking with your child at the Careers Corner on google classroom will support you with this and we are always happy to receive careers related enquiries from home.
